Shortly after Solange Knowles did the big chop, she was in news everywhere. Gone were the weaves and extensions (similar to what her sister Beyonce wears). She now sports her natural hair. Nothing more. And nothing less! And she’s gorgeous. I applaud her bravery for making such a move.
I saw the Oprah episode where Solange appeared a few months after she went natural. To talk specifically about her hair. Great interview. This was the same show where Oprah interviewed Chris Rock about his documentary on Good Hair. She’s also one of the celebrity models promoting for Carol’s Daughter and their new Transitioning campaign for women who are in transition from chemical relaxed hair to all natural hair care.
And recently, Essence Magazine caught up with Solange to ask her some questions about her natural hair. Check it out by going to the Essence website by clicking here. Or by clicking the website picture below.
Here’s a snippet of the interview:
ESSENCE: How do you feel about your hair now?
KNOWLES: I think many people, especially from other cultures, just don’t understand the role hair plays in Black women’s lives. I can now transform the energy surrounding my hair into something way more productive. Now that [my hair is] growing back, I’m kind of in that in-between stage. Previously, I would have said, “I’m straightening it again; it’s just becoming too much work.” But I think the key is to find styles that give me flexibility.
