Interview with Lisa Gore aka Mrs. Chosen

Editor's Note:  For a season The Urban Web Link website I managed featured interviews of ordinary yet interesting believers in our community.  Lisa Gore is one of the persons highlighted in this online series and this is a reprint of that interview from February 17, 2005.

How are you today?
Today I'm feeling mighty blessed. GOD has done some great and awesome things in my life for His glory lately, and I'm feeling good!

Let's start by introducing you to persons who don't already know you.
My name is Lisa Gore.  Many may remember me as Lisa Poindexter or crazy Lisa. But now I'm Mrs. Chosen.

Are you originally from Philadelphia?
Born and raised in West Philly. My home church is in West Philly on 52nd and Master Street… Bible Way Baptist Church where Damone B. Jones Sr. is the Senoir Pastor.

Are you currently a student or have you graduated from college?
I'm currently at Community College of Phila. and my major is Communication Arts/Theather.

Tell us your salvation story. When did you come to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ?
Well, it was July, 1996 and my grandmother (who was the only mother I knew) died at 80 years old and I was at her funneral when God spoke to my heart through my pastor. I actually have the message on my CD. The words that changed me and made me take God into my heart. I was on my way to death because I had lost my mother and life was the pitts in every way. I was living in sin and addicted to sex, drugs and alcohol. Everyone I loved was not dependable and I just wanted someone to truely love me. Then my pastor said, "When you leave here today you better take Jesus with you, because Jesus said I will never leave you nor forsake you." Thats was all I heard that day the funneral… I was locked into my pain and tears until he said that. And it's been Father/Son/Holy Spirit ever since!

How did you get started musically?
I've always been into music. I use to rap in the hallways of Shoemaker Jr. High school in 1987. But I started rapping Gospel right after hearing Holy Culture drop [a Christian rap compilation released by The Cross Movement]. I can remember wanting to do it sooner, like when I first got saved in the late 90s, but my walk wasn't right. I had to get somethings together in me. And with the help of the Holy Spirit I am no longer in bondage!

How long have you been doing what you do musically?
2003, as far as Gospel rap. Singing and poetry sence 1997. But I've been doing this my whole life.

What is your ultimate vision of goal with your music?
Well, to impact the world and cause lost souls to come to Christ and cause weak saved souls to become stronger in Him.

Please tell us a testimony of how someone came to know Christ or was discipled or edified through your music.
Well last summer these woman were coming from the Beer Deli and we were having an out door service at my church on 52nd and Master. They started to keep walking but my rapping caught their ear. When I had finished they pulled me aside and shared with me how they were changed and affected by what I said in my rap and that they were coming to church and gonna start a new life with Christ. I think I was moved more than them!

What type of music do you listen to? What genres and artists?
I always listen to Gospel Rap. That is my first love. Everyone that does it, I listen to them.

How many albums or EPs do you have out (please list the names of each one, and the release dates), and where can people buy them?
Well actually I'm just getting this thing off the ground. And this demo is my start. I'm giving it away because it needs to be heard and my blessings will not be money but people contacting me telling me how their lives have been affected and changed.  To get a copy, people can go to

What’s your favorite track on the CD? If there was one word to sum up that song, what would it be?
Wow, my favorite?  Well I guess I'll say track 4 which is "My God, my Boo." I say this one because it was my dream come true to become a wife and I praise God the whole song for blessing me. Also everyone seems to be in love with the message of the song also.

What record label are you signed with, or is this an independent project?
Independent right now.

What is your favorite scripture?
I have too many, but I'll give you one. No two! Isaiah 43:1-3 ( This is where I chose my name from)  and also 1 Corinthians 13:1-3. "Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing."

What is your favorite website addresses? and

What is your favorite sports team?
Eagles all day!

Any special message or hello for our listeners or other musicians
I want to thank my husband for being my greatest listener, and my son for wanting to be cool like his mom. I want to thank James Macabbee who I consider my gospel rap coach who helped me from the beginning in so many ways. I also want to thank Purpose for being a great friend and helpful to me as well with my ministry and so many other things. My church family, especially my Pastor & his wife. And last but not least Cross Movement for the motivation I needed to get into the full calling of my Christian Life.
